Pelmatography/Foot graphy is a modern diagnostic test which analyses pressure exerted at the forefoot in normal or pathological situations in terms of both statics and dynamics (walking).
The pelmatography device includes a sensitive indicator in the form of an electric mat that records pressure and a processor/PC which converts data into foot images with a colour grading depending on exerted pressure.
Further examination of the results leads to useful conclusions about abnormal pressure exerted on feet in various pathological conditions (e.g. flat feet, bunions, former ankle or forefoot fractures, etc.) and guides the fabrication of corrective precision soles tailor-made to fit the feet of the specific patient, that help treat persistent and painful disorders.
Applications for pelmatography/foot graphy
In children:
- Identifying and correcting functional flat feet,
- Correcting varus/valgus knees prior to bone maturation,
- Identifying and correcting/preventing talar valgus.
In adults:
- Post-traumatic lesion control
- calcaneous fractures involving the ankle joint,
- intra-articular talar fractures healed in defective positions,
- ankle instability due to ligament tears,
- metatarsal fractures,
- corrective metatarsal osteotomies.
Chronic Foot Pain Syndromes
- Chronic Achilles tendinitis,
- Plantar fasciitis, heel spur, eburnations,
- “Burning feet”,
- Hallux valgus,
- Diabetic foot, neuropathic foot.
Shin and knee pain syndromes,
- Pain from peroneal overuse (peroneal tendonitis),
- Anterior tibial tendonitis,
- anterior knee pain.
Other applications
- Preventing overuse injuries in athletes, soldiers or professionals obliged to stand for long hours,
- Comparing pre-operative to post-operative data (e.g. osteotomies).
